The Netherlands Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (NIGZ) aims to encourage healthy behaviour to the population of the Netherlands. As well as providing help to the general public, they also offer practical support to companies and health professionals by supplying information, training and materials.
One of their latest programmes, sponsored by GSK, promotes a range of long-term strategies to help effective weight management for young people aged between 12 and 16 years old, who are at risk of developing obesity.
The main aims are to promote healthy behaviours to encourage, motivate and enable young people to manage their weight by making informed decisions about the food they eat and engaging in daily physical activity for at least 30 minutes.
The programme is primarily located in areas with low economic status where many of the children are from migrant families. They are taught about healthy behaviour and encouraged to manage their weight by making informed decisions about food and exercise.
